So, let's see, as I understand it, the conservative Republican Party wants government to stay out of individuals' lives and let a person live as he or she sees fit without government intrusion. Grover Norquist wants government to leave everyone alone so much that he's said it should be made so small you could drown it in a bathtub. Government's intrusion into our lives isn't the solution to the problem, said Ronald Reagan, the patron saint of conservatism, it is the problem. Big government, conservatives insist, should just stay out of everyone's lives, This is the era of personal responsibility, after all.
The only things conservatives and Republicans want government to do, based on recent proposals, is to require a probe be stuck up a woman's vagina, decide who can marry, determine the ways two people can legally have sex, control a woman's decision over her body, create an official state religion, read your emails and listen to your phone conversations, determine how long a couple is required to stay married, limit who is able to vote on all these matters, and define life, just for starters, Other than that, the radical far right wants government to stay out of your life. The conservative concept of government couldn't be anymore deeply inside your life if it was the tip of one its beloved transvaginal probes. Y'know, with a far right political viewpoint like this, no wonder Ronald Reagan would think government is the problem. The only parts of big government that the far right really only wants out of our lives are very things that help those who need it -- Social Security, Medicare, unemployment insurance, healthcare, civil rights laws, equal rights protection, minimum wage, affirmative action, education and on and on. The observation isn't a difficult one to make -- It's not that conservatives don't like big government, it's that they don't seem to like little people. Or people, period. Except, maybe, themselves. Maybe.
