On Friday, the president of the Catholic League, Bill Donohue, sent out a news release that said, "Given Obama’s ideology, perhaps it would make more sense for him to swear on Das Kapital," the manifesto by Karl Marx. Warm and brotherly though that sentiment is from the head of the Catholic League, it might be surprising to note that Mr. Donohue's rant was not, in fact, caused by having an issue in the Affordable Heath Care Act about contraception, but rather President Obama's "gay agenda."
It's important to make clear that the group's full name is actually, "Catholic League of Religious and Civil Rights." I suspect that there is a discussion under way among its board about removing the word, "civil." Basically, in their mission statement, they make clear that they are about anti-defamation. Apparently, they're not terribly clear about that word either. Or the whole, y'know, "Love thy fellow man" concept.
