The other day, I mentioned how Conan O'Brien has often said that The Music Man is his favorite musical, and that once when a writer on The Simpsons he wrote an episode inspired by the musical, "Maggie vs. the Monorail." Here's a bit of that show with the most memorable scene, with Phil Hartman in the guest star role.
(Why there are these odd graphics superimposed on the screen, I have no idea what the person doing that was thinking. The only thing I can guess is that in the town of Newcastle -- I'm guessing the one in England -- there was discussion of building a monorail, and this was the person's editorial commentary. Or not. Happily, the graphics are easy enough to ignore.)
And as a bonus just for you, here is Conan O'Brien himself performing the number live during the big "The Simpsons Take the Hollywood Bowl" stage production done last September for three performances -- which conveniently coincided with their 25th anniversary.
Robert J. Elisberg is a political commentator, screenwriter, novelist, tech writer and also some other things that I just tend to keep forgetting.
