Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) had a very good day in the Twitter World on Monday. She had a couple of tweets that I thought were gems. I'm not particularly a name-calling kind of guy. And even for those who are, I think most everyone faces an uphill battle when trying to compete with Trump simply because he was born with the nasty-smarmy gene and most people weren't. So, he goes to more infantile places than they will, and as a result their efforts are just sort of normal and don't stick. But Tammy Duckworth did something different. She came up with a name for Trump that was surprising, since it came from her, of all people, and also didn't try to compete on a childish level, but went at Trump at a vulnerable spot and made a direct hit, and actually seems to be catching on with some traction. Moreover, it had more impact than most other efforts because of Sen. Duckworth's personal history, as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army and Purple Heart recipient after being a double-amputee in the Iraq War. I've already seen a lot of tweets and references to "Cadet Bone Spurs." And her second tweet was equally impressive -- not for what she wrote, because the words of note aren't hers -- but rather for the quote she found which she then put in proper perspective. It's about as spot-on perfect as one can want. By the way, as a bonus, it's worth noting that I absolutely love an earlier tweet -- from January 20 -- that Tammy Duckworth wrote...and then pinned, so that it would be locked in at the time of her Twitter timeline page. It doesn't count as one of Monday's "Tweets of the Day," but it shows this former Lieutenant Colonel Purple Heart recipient serving in the United States Senate to be once again a gem in low-key, pointed and impactful tweets.
