Over on Mark Evanier's website, he has a link here to a clip from the Monty Python Live (Mostly) reunion concert, that's a promotion for the upcoming DVD. It's the "I'm a Lumberjack" scene. Since you can check it out there, I figured I'd post it here, as well. Ah, but no, it's a different one -- "The Spanish Inquisition." I'll bet you didn't expect that! But then, no one expects the Spanish Inquisition. One thing stands out from these clips. The guys are in fine form, and it's just just old farts doddering around on stage. They're terrific, and seeming to have a wonderful time. (I believe the DVD is from the final performance, so that likely has ratcheted their emotions up, though I've seen brief excerpts from earlier performance, and they're all lively and vibrant.) Also, they are playing...okay, two things stand out from these clips. One, that they're in fine form, and two,, that they... (Okay, not to worry, I won't beat this joke into a dead parrot...) Among the other things that stand out are that they decided to have a little fun on occasion with the audience's expectation and word-for-word knowledge of every joke and line. Also, the HD video quality of this is spectacular. And what a massively huge crowd they got at the O2 venue. It's not unexpected, but still... And as a bonus, here's a "teaser trailer" for the DVD. They do something clever with it, I think. Enough clips of the Python troupe to whet your appetite, but half the teaser is with the company in production numbers, so as not to give too much away, and also it's new song material to let people know this isn't just dusting off the Greatest Hits. And that's it's also a Big Show, with Big Production and a Big Cast, more than just five guys.
