I tried this last year and thought it was worth bringing back. This is the season, of course, for holiday songs that we tend to hear endlessly -- many, most even might be wonderful, but we hear them over and over and over and....oooover. So, I like to track down some fun, often terrific holiday songs -- most of them about Christmas, but not all -- that are much lesser known.
We'll start with one for the British musical Pickwick. I figured this was a good way to begin for three reasons -- one, it's a very nice song. Two, it's from a show based on a novel by Charles Dickens who might be the author best-associated with Christmas, and three...hey, it's Pickwick, as readers of this site know it's one of my favorite shows, so that's as good a reason as any. And it stars my fave Sir Harry Secombe. Here then is Harry Secombe, Teddy Green and company with "That's What I'd Like for Christmas." It's a song that comes near the show as Pickwick and his valet Sam Weller reminisce about when they first met, which sets off most of the show in flashback.
