Back in 1989, when they released Back to the Future II, Marty McFly travels to the future of 2015. And one of the humorous turns is when the audience gets to see some of the predictions for that year, a quarter century far ahead.
Most people don't remember any of the predictions, but one has been getting a lot of good-natured attention in Chicago, as the 2015 baseball Spring Training has begun.
Here's a reminder from a few screen shots edited together --
There's even a Chicago car museum that's offering a contest where, if the Chicago Cubs actually do win the World Series this year, the winner will be given a 1981 DeLorean. Mind you, it's a fairly safe contest for a team that hasn't won in 106 years -- though according to most analysts, the team made significant improvements during the off-season, and with an acclaimed new manager, perhaps the most-coveted free agent pitcher signings, and many highly-touted rookies, the Cubs are being positioned as team to watch. They likely won't be serious contenders to compete for the World Series for two years, being so young, but the reality is that if a team can improve enough to squeak into the playoffs as a Wild Card, anyone has a chance to win.
It's still hardly likely, but -- Back to the future, indeed...
