Sins of the Father

And so we learn that the father of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Calgary) says that President Barack Obama should "Go back to Kenya."

Mind you, I rarely care much at all what the parents of public figures say, most especially intolerant racist ones.  Just as parents shouldn't inherently be tarnished by what they children say, children shouldn't necessarily be tarnished by their crazy parents.

In this cause, though, reports are that Mr. Cruz pere is one of his sons top advisers.  So, he's fair for the attention.  But there's another reason I feel comfortable bringing this up.

It's that I truly don't understand how totally clueless Rafael Cruz is.  How anyone, let another a top adviser, let alone a parent -- let alone a parent who is a top adviser -- could say something so stupidly destructive to his son's political future.  And when I say "so stupidly destructive," I don't mean the racist birther part.  That's just the foolish idiocy of a crotchety father.

No, I'm talking about how if Rafael Cruz actually believes what he's saying and wants to draw attention to it and wants and wants everyone to believe that Barack Obama is not a citizen of the United States and therefore not eligible to be president...then he is making an exact case for why his son is not eligible to become president.

The "case" by birthers that President Obama isn't a citizen is as simple as it is lunatic. It's that he wasn't born in the United States, has no birth certificate to prove otherwise, and has a foreign-born father and U.S. citizen mother.

The thing is...that is exactly the same situation that Ted Cruz himself is in.  With one far-worse exception -- he does have a birth certificate that shows he wasn't born in the United States.

This isn't a surprise.  Rafael Cruz can't be THAT stupid that he doesn't know that he himself wasn't an American citizen when his son was born, and isn't aware where his son was born.  Nor that his wife was a U.S. citizen.  He has to know all this.  So, even if everything he charges about Mr. Obama were true -- which it has been relentlessly shown not to be -- then he is making the exact same freaking case that would doom his own son's White House dreams.

Clearly, he believes his son is eligible to be president.  So, to go on his manic rant against the President of the United States is all the more loony.

As I said, I truly don't understand how totally clueless Rafael Cruz is.  But I guess when you're such a driven racist, the sky is the limit.
