Miguel Cabrerra is the star of the Detroit Tigers, and one of the best players in baseball. The other day, after the Tigers officially made it into the post-season, Cabrerra was quoted as saying he was turning down any playoff money because his only focus is on winning the World Series.
(This is a perfectly fine statement to make, and admirable in many ways, since playoff money has the potential of reaching $300,000. It's worth keeping in mind, of course, that this is an easier thing to say when you have a contract that pays you $295 million. And, of course, the mere fact of saying it is not legally binding. But still, let's assume he does stick to it, it showed good leadership, whatever the perspective.)
Which brings us to one of the team's star pitchers, Cy Young Award-winner Max Scherzer. He was later asked about Cabrerra’s statement. And his wonderful reply was --
“Great! More for the rest of us!”
