Oops, They Did It Again.  Almost Immediately.

Okay, so you'll remember I'm sure how earlier this morning I wrote yet another piece about the Huffington Post's Apple Love and said --
If it's Apple, it must be wonderful and written about in glowing terms and given space on the home page, and even banner headlines, almost whatever the story.  If it's Microsoft, it must be ignored or trashed.  Yes, I'm exaggerating, but honestly not a lot.
-- and how they went out of their way to have a major banner headline on both the homepage and Technology page trashing Microsoft (including with an old Windows 98 "Blue Screen of Death") for a story that wasn't remotely about what the headlines implied?

Well, as I suggested, HuffPo couldn't leave that alone.  It wasn't enough the slam Microsoft inaccurately. There was something missing.  They didn't have an article trumpeting Apple in some way about how cool it is and how great others think it is, in hopes of making it the Most Amazing Thing Ever.

Well, rest easy, all of you who were concerned.  This evening, I checked the Technology page.  And not only was the Blue Screen of Death slam still there -- so, too, now was...this!  As (I swear) the #2 top tech story of the day!

Seriously.
Picture
Yes, folks, according to the Huffington Post tech folks, that was the second top tech story on Thursday.  I'm not kidding you.  And just to show you that I'm not just taking some random Apple Love article and saying it's their #2 tech story...oh, no, I wouldn't lie to you good and wonderful readers.  Here's the proof.

Here's the top of the Tech page.
Picture
There it is!  Yes, the second most important tech story -- directly under the massive banner disingenuous Blue Screen of Death -- is an Apple story about...I don't know, about some utterly stupid nonsense.  But...hey, it's about Apple!  And about Apple being so amazing that some guy thinks you'll pay $22,000 for a handle to your iPhone.  That thing on the right, that's just an ad.  On the left, it's a blog.  It's the only other news story (and I use the term advisedly) up there.

As I said --
If it's Apple, it must be wonderful and written about in glowing terms and given space on the home page, and even banner headlines, almost whatever the story.  If it's Microsoft, it must be ignored or trashed.  Yes, I'm exaggerating, but honestly not a lot.
For those who might think I overstate the extent of Apple Love on the Huffington Post and how it manifests itself, all I can say is -- "I'm exaggerating, but honestly not a lot."

I really tries hard nots to lie to you...

Since I got the Microsoft blue screen of death and switched to Apple a few years ago I have to say I've been generally happier. This is not to say that I didn't use Microsoft products happily for years, just that I'm happier now.

I don't know that Microsoft deserves all the villainy attributed to them, but when I see some of the stuff you point out I'm mostly amused because it is so over the top.

In the long run the only thing I care about is that my machine works and does not crash and eat everything I've written. I don't really care which behemoth company makes more billions than the other. They are baseball teams to root for or against.

What you must understand is that I have written a tech column for 18 years. I am not making my complaint as a FanBoy, but as a tech writer. I'll explain this more in a posting.

Oh, I know you're not a fanboy... And I know you will know more about tech than I will ever know. I guess it's more your annoyance at HuffPo that I'm reacting to. It seems petty and I don't think of you as petty.

That said, this is your site and you get to do whatever you want with it... If I ever get up the gumption to put a site up I can do what I want. The fact is I like almost all of what you write. So maybe I'm the one being petty...

Petty at a major news organization for having an unrelenting bias in their reporting? We have a different definition of petty. They ran two banner headline stories, including one on the front page, that suggested Microsoft was in financial trouble -- something that was wildly untrue from the story. As I said, I wrote a piece about it and will be posting it later today.
