In honor of Labor Day -- though most of these numbers have nothing to do with labor, but they are about economics, so that sort of counts, and one of them is about labor, so we're going to go with it -- here are some polls numbers I find encouraging.
I saw an article yesterday about a Fox host being dumbfounded by a Biden adviser giving poll results on the success of Bidenomics. It was an interesting article, with the video of the exchange embedded, but more than the “story,” it was the poll numbers that Jared Bernstein gave which struck me as extremely encouraging news. Whether people people still just look at these things as individual matters, rather than “Look what Biden has done for economics,” I don’t know. But this is really an extremely good starting point with details breaking through, and clearly what Biden and Democrats will talk about in the campaign. Among the figures -- 60 percent of Americans support capping insulin costs for seniors at $35 a month. 81 percent support Medicare negotiating drug prices to reduce the cost as other countries do. 77 percent support capping the "out-of-pocket" cost that Americans must pay for prescription drugs. And as the one, official concession here to an actual labor-related figure on Labor Day -- 79 percent support tax incentives that support creating more manufacturing jobs. Meaning people are fine raising taxes if it means ensuring manufacturing can be created in the U.S. Those numbers are the important point, but here’s the full article with the video.
