Third time's the charm, and so we finish out the Edgar Bergen trilogy. Remarkably, he was the Mystery Guest on What's My Line? three times, and this is with my fave, Mortimer Snerd. What makes this appearance particularly fun, though, is that one of the panelists is fellow-ventriloquist Paul Winchell, and that leads to some fun and a special appearance later on.
Mortimer doesn't get to do a lot here, albeit it's him supposedly putting on the fake voice, since when Bergen signs in at the beginning, he does so, not as Edgar Bergen, but rather signing 'Mortimer Snerd.' In fact, in that regard, John Daley sort of screws up a little. When a guess is made for "Edgar Bergen," he says "Yes," and you can tell that Bergen wanted them to guess Mortimer. Whether that's what had been decided on beforehand, or just something Bergen decided when he signed in, who knows?
Robert J. Elisberg is a political commentator, screenwriter, novelist, tech writer and also some other things that I just tend to keep forgetting.
