Let's head back to What's My Line? for the Mystery Guest segment. And today, the contestant is legendary actress Helen Hayes, who won two Oscars (one for Supporting Actress in Airport, and the other as Best Actress in The Sin of Madelon Claudet) and received three Tony Awards (one a Special Tony for Lifetime Achievement). Along with nine Emmy nominations, winning once as Best Actress. She comes in around the 19.00 mark. What's particularly fun here is that the panel makes a comment that paints them into a corner, and she has fun chiding them for it. Also worth noting is that she refers to her son, James MacArthur. For those who remember the original TV series of Hawaii Five-0, he played 'Dan-o', the sidekick to Steve McGarrett. In fact, she appeared on one episode of the show as his Aunt Clara. Just for some added information, it was a talented family. Charles MacArthur (her husband and James' father) was a writer and partner of Ben Hecht, most famously on the plays The Front Page and The Twentieth Century (later adapted as the musical, On the Twentieth Century). As a screenwriter, Charles MacArthur got two Oscar nominations, for Wuthering Heights (with Hecht) and Rasputin and the Empress. Other films they wrote include Barbary Coast and the film story for Gunga Din -- as well as the aforementioned The Sin of Madelon Claudet, which won Helen Hayes her Oscar. Which brings us back to Helen Hayes -- And just for fun, here's a bonus video -- a 3-minute sequence from Hawaii Five-0 with Helen Hayes and her son, James MacArthur.
