This is a bit of a different Mystery Guest segment from What's My Line? Every once in a while, the show liked to play tricks on its panelists, and when they did the results were often a joy. In this case, it wasn't precisely one of their celebrity "Mystery Guests," but a guest who, as host John Daly says, might have some physical characteristic or slight connection with a panelist, so the use of the Mystery Guest blindfold was required. The trick being played here was on longtime panelist Dorothy Kilgallen. That's because the guest was her father. James Kilgallen was, in fact, a well-respected journalist at the time, so he had every reason to be a guest on the show, all on his own merits. But the twist makes it all the more fun. Most fun are two moments late in the clip. One, when another panelist suddenly realizes who the guest is, but isn't allowed to chime in because it's, of all people, Dorothy Kilgallen's turn to ask questions. And the other is when it finally dawns on Kilgallen herself who the guest might just possibly be.
