The wonderful classical music station, WFMT, is broadcasting today (Saturday) the Lyric Opera of Chicago's production of The Sound of Music. The broadcast begins at 6:45 PM Chicago time -- that's 4:45 PM in Los Angeles, and 7:45 PM on the east coast. You can listen to it by going here to WFMT.com and clicking on "Listen Live." WFMT broadcasts all opening nights of the Lyric -- sometimes live, I believe, though in this case the opening was last night, so this is recorded. The cast mixes members of the Lyric Opera company with guest performers. For this production, as an example, Billy Zane will play the role of Captain Von Trapp. Here's a brief preview And here, as sort of a bonus are three of the leading executives of the Lyric Opera of Chicago discussing the show, their personal histories with it, and why they chose to put it on. Renee Fleming, Sir Andrew Davis and Anthony Freud. I was going to explain what they each of them do for the company, but I figure that you can just as easily read it below.
