Oh, okay. After yesterday's Mystery Guests from What's My Line?, I figured I might as well post a clip from Green Acres. I tried to find something that showed what I was talking about, how the program would break conventions and go all bizarre, but there weren't as many videos to choose from as I hoped. I did find this one -- which is appropriately titled, "Eb Breaks the Fourth Wall," so it fits. It's just very brief though. However, it begins with the wonderful theme song (included here for a specific and appropriate reason), so that's a bonus.
The short clip features Tom Lester who did a memorable job playing the clueless farmhand, Eb Dawson. He was so terrific in the role, though I never could quite tell how much of it was impressive acting, or impeccable matching of the character with the actor. But he sure was great as Eb. Here's the opening along with Eb breaking the fourth wall and then having one of his many in-depth conversations with his good friend Eleanor -- the cow.
