On today's home page of the Huffington Post -- the home page, mind you -- there is a link to a story, "Apple Slashes Prices." Whoa. Sound big, doesn't it? Boy howdy, does it ever. Apple, the high price kings, are slashing prices!! So, you go to read this big story -- because, hey, it's big enough to be on the home page of the Huffington Post -- and you find out that...well, it takes you to the Business page, and there the headline is different. There, the story reads: Say what?
One, freaking specific item. But still, wait, this must be a big deal anyway, because they didn't just drop the price, noooo, Apples "slashes" the price! So, you haven't wasted your time coming here for the story, right? It's got to be a biggie. This was on the home page, after all. What is it, what? The iPhone, the iPad Mini, Apple TV?? What, what??! Apple is lowering the price of the 13" MacBook Pro (only) by $200. The original price was $1,700, it will now cost $1,500. And by the way -- and I'm sure this will shock you -- the company is launching new models in the line that are faster and more memory. So, in other words, this front page headline story -- that "Apples Slashes Prices" -- is about one, single out-of-date model of a upgraded product line that is being cut 12%. Wooo-wee! Stop the presses. I like Huffington Post tech coverage. A lot. But geez, guys, get a grip. Apple computers probably cover only about 10% of the market. That means 90% of the rest of the world uses a computer operating system other than Apple. Mostly...well, Windows. Well, okay, Thursday is Valentine's Day. If you're going to have some Apple Love, that's the day for it, I guess. Though it doesn't explain the other 364 days of the year...
