The other week, Tom Hanks was a guest on the Jimmy Kimmel Live show, promoting his new movie Sully, where he plays airplane pilot "Sully" Sullenger who famously had a forced-landing in the Hudson River while piloting a US Airways flight. As it happened, Sullenger himself was a guest on the show. I don't know who came up with the idea for this, but they deserve a big promotion. It's a short film they made, Hanks, the life-story of Tom Hanks career...that stars "Sully" Sullenger as Tom Hanks. To be clear, it's not Jimmy Kimmel pretending to be Sullenberger playing Hanks, which would still be funny...no, this is the real-life Capt. Sullenger who stars in the short film as Hanks. It isn't all great, but that's beside the point. It's plenty fun enough, but just the concept alone had me laughing all the way through. And there's a surprise in it, as well, which Hanks very graciously acknowledges afterwards. Indeed, stick around after the film for Hanks reaction. It's possible he knew they would be doing the film, it's not clear, though I get the sense he did, but even if so, I doubt that he'd seen it before, which is why his response to it all is fun.
