Climate Change Denial

9/18/2015

This is a hoot.  It might not be a hoot if you're a Climate Change Denier, though even there you might fight to hold back a smile.  Probably not, but...

But for most others, this is a video from Girl Pants Productions called, "How Climate Change Deniers Sound to Normal People."

Okay, you can probably read that below.  Twice. But that's its name.

Robert, time to get a few things off my chest.
What question would you ask the republican presidential candidates if you had the opportunity?
Democracy - majority rules, 3 say yes, 2 say no, ayes have it. Unless of course, it is regarding voting for prez, then we are electoral. Are we really democratic?
No, as you know we have a republican form of government. That is, we elect our brightest to vote on our behalf. Yeah right! The % of our citizens that believe in our elected officials is barely a blip on the screen.
Did you notice that when they did a fall back pan of the audience at the repub debate the make up off the attendees seemed to be 99% Caucasian?
And the worst part? I couldn't stomach watching the whole debacle but I found myself changing the channel back to it. Like a car wreck. Like a frickin car wreck!
Supply side economics - Don't make corporations pay taxes because they will invest it back in their business and hire more people. Did I get that right?
Repeal Obamacare - Did anyone ever do a questionnaire on how many people were refused health insurance due to pre-existing conditions?
Nuclear deal - No deal, lets put more troops on the ground. Why doesn't anyone ask if they would agree to spend one million dollars a year per soldier that we send over there... And if 65% of our soldiers come back home and go into the VA medical system for physical and mental disabilities. You see...in my mind, if that is what happened in Iraq, then...well, never mind.
Carly Fiorina - To be honest with you...I wouldn't want that face to be President of the United States.
Climate change - Senator Inhoffe represents me when it comes to that...and Congressman Mullin...Did I mention we elect our brightest?
Military - As a degreed accountant...you don't want me to go there.

I might suggest a name change...The United Corporations of America...and we can have a republican form of government that votes on their behalf...wait...we already have that.
And in ending...my son was discussing where he wanted to live when he grew up...Switzerland...Unless, of course, things change here...and the worst part...he played a fact filled document from the internet about Switzerland and I asked him if he would take me with him.

Paul, thank you for taking the time to write. I'm not nearly as cynically bleak about the status of things as you are, but you makes some good points. I don't agree with all -- most notably, I couldn't care less what someone's face looked like for being president. Also, far more problematic to me than the Electoral College is that today you need 60 votes in the Senate to pass something important.

I haven't given much thought into The One Question I would want asked at the next GOP debate. But I might start with "What specifically would you replace the Affordable Care Act with?" Or -- "97% of professional climate scientists say that climate change is real and critical. If 97% of all doctors in the world said you needed heart surgery immediately or you will likely die in three months, would you get heart surgery immediately? Or would you say, "I'm not a heart surgeon and the science is inconclusive, so I'm going to listen to the 3% and wait for it to be unanimous"?

Robert, I appreciate you taking the time to respond to my thoughts. I assure you my outlook on life and the future that I hope to provide for my grandchildren is more rosy than you can even imagine. I commend you on your success and envy you for being able to do something you enjoy for a living. Unfortunately, I have yet to attain continued success and at 56 years of age, I am still trying to figure out what I am going to do when I grow up.
Now I am going to say something extremely brash so please hear me out. I believe in my mind that I can speak for 90% of our country. Now, you may doubt, so I shall continue. I shall describe some groups of Americans that I can relate to. I belong to a group of Americans that had their jobs exported to the Chinese or were replaced by imported Mexicans. I belong to a group of Americans that our main concern is having enough to survive the month, let alone worry about a $400.00 emergency. I belong to a group of Americans that were denied health insurance coverage because of a pre-existing condition. I belong to a group of Americans that had liens attached to their assets by the IRS in the early 90s. Illegally, of course. I belong to a group of Americans that purchase most of our essentials and 95% of our Christmas gifts that are made in China. Did you ever think that we energize the Chinese economy every Christmas? I also belong to a group of Americans that has been fleeced by the 1%, assorted lobbyist groups, the majority of our elected officials, and basically, anyone who had the chance. I see many groups of Americans donate, even when it hurts, and yet so many still are in need. I belong to a group of Americans that have no concerns with the stock market. I feel for the group of Americans that will lose everything when the stock market crashes again.
You see Robert, I belong to many groups of Americans that you cannot relate to, and don't get me wrong, I am glad you are not part of the suffering group. I have been homeless on more than one occasion. While I hope it is not true, it seems I have been unemployed more than not. Health and dental insurance, even if it was available, was certainly not affordable. I have fought and lost battles with big government, small government, big business, small business, non-profits, friends, and enemies alike. My wife and I had to start over every three years or so because of these crushed dreams. I started in construction, then the hospitality industry, school to become an accountant, bankrupt, business owner, bankrupt, disabled, bankrupt, back to construction, land developer, bankrupt, back to construction, government employee, divorced, bankrupt, homeless, back to construction, disabled, homeless, bankrupt, and finally back to construction. I've put cancer in the rear view mirror on more than one occasion. Their was a 30 day period where I busted a nut (hernia) which was good because I found out about the leukemia. Nearly dying from tic fever in between the surgery and the chemo, I could have done without. Their was the time that my family and I were attending a Babe Ruth Baseball game my 13 year old was playing in. The umpire, who was a martial arts teacher with anger problems assaulted me in the parking lot, unprovoked I might add. Babe Ruth baseball accepted no responsibility as he was contract labor. Of course the direct result of getting punched in the temple twice and in the solarplex once was a concussion, post concussion syndrome, nervous disorder, and the loss of my million dollar lakefront property that I was developing outside of Branson, MO. The end result is still yet unknown since K&K insurance didn't investigate it and allowed this gentleman to not only continue as an umpire, but I found out later, he was a coach.
Now, I can show proof of the illegal $182K IRS lien. I can also show proof of a lien I had to file for $180K against Trammel Crow for payment for work performed. Of course I did not get paid. I can show proof of an unprovoked assault by an umpire, who may still be umping.
I can show proof of a bunch of stupid things that happen to reflect on my beliefs on the ethical and moral behavior of the people who seem to matter most. I must admit to you that I had to look up the definition of cynical, just to make sure.
So, as you can see, I belong to many groups that you do not. But I most adamantly assure you that we share a common bond of the want for a better future. Now, as you can see, I have had to reinvent myself several times over the years. One other failed attempt is not documented here and it needs to be shared. When I was the head of administration for the local census bureau office, I met many smart individuals, three in particular with IQ's north of 150. What I found out was that it was almost impossible to ask a question that they could not answer. So I asked them, if you could do it all over knowing what you know now, putting nutrition and efficiency at a premium,

My wife did say I could write a book though. But as you can tell I suck at that. Any advice?

Paul, again, thanks for your lengthy note. And again, I'm sorry for all the tales you went through. I'll say that I don't think most anyone can speak, in general, for 90% of the people regardless of the breadth of their life experiences, because whatever overlap there is, there also is wide divergence on other matters -- though on specific, individual matters, yes, perhaps.

As for advice on writing a book -- if that's what you're asking -- there's not much I can give, other than what every writer knows at its basic core. You have to start, and you have to finish.

(That isn't mean to be cute. Most people talk about writing, but never get to the first word. And most people rewrite and tweak and go-back and fix things, and want every word to be perfect that they never once get to "The End." You have to get there, so that THEN you can go back and edit.)

Sorry about the rambling. The sad part about is that it took me 4 hours to type it when I could have said it in about ten minutes. And with that I think I can explain the lack of quality options when it comes to television, movies, books, etc. The people that have the best stories to share aren't writers.
If I had the opportunity to pose a question at the debates it would go something like this, Mr. Trump, You mentioned that Scotland had a single payer health program that was very successful and added that it couldn't work here. So am I to understand, that even with your top of the line business acumen, you could not implement a proven, successful method even when someone is showing you how to do it?
And with regards to my so called life story that warranted your pity, I made it all up. After all, no American citizen could have walked 1600 miles to Washington DC without anyone hearing about it, right?
