This is another of those fun "talent TV show" (for lack of a better name) videos. This from the British version of The X Factor. But with a twist. The fun of this piece is not the discovery of a surprising, unexpected talent -- though that's there -- but the surprise for the contestants parents.
The young man never told his parents that he'd applied to be on the show, let alone that he would be performing. But he got tickets and then pretended that he couldn't make it and gave the tickets to them. The show knew all about this, so they kept the camera on the parents.
Of course, the surprise wouldn't be half as fun if the kid didn't do well. And while he has flaws in his singing, what he has is unknown for so many of these performances -- interpretation and understanding of the lyrics. He also has a winning way about him, regardless of his performance. So, how did it all come off?
Here, take a look --
