God spare us from 24-hour news channels that have to fill up their time.
I'm sorry to hear about Nancy Reagan's passing. I think it's nice and appropriate that it's being reported. Maybe a well-done 15-minute story would be lovely, perhaps even give her a half-hour report. But, oh, my God, this has been going on for FIVE hours, and there's no end in sight. This is a 94-year-old woman whose claim to fame is that she was married to a former president. And note to the networks -- after four hours of coverage, it is no longer "Breaking News." But then, hey, it's not like there's any other actual political news going on today, is there? So, sure, they have nothing else to talk about, so might as well just keep rambling on and on and on, about a 94-year-old woman who passed away. Thank goodness there weren't four primaries yesterday, or two primaries on Tuesday, or a primary today, or a debate tonight. Happily, we have the Nancy Reagan "Breaking News" story to fill up all the time... The only 24-cable news channel not still covering this is CNN, but that's because they have the Democratic debate tonight, from Flint, Michigan. So, it's in their interest to get back to actual, real political news. But everyone else? It's more Breaking News. If Eleanor Roosevelt had died, I wouldn't expect five hours of coverage. (And I only say five hours because that's what it is now...and counting.) An full hour, maybe, for Eleanor Roosevelt, one of the most remarkable, admired, disliked, controversial, amazing, great.women of the 20th century Maybe they're hoping that if they keep talking, Mrs. Reagan come back to life. Or kill off the audience.
