I don't want to dive into Trump whining about states needing too much medical equipment and protective gear, after having said that the BEST CASE Scenario is 100,000-240,000 Americans dying. Or Trump trying to tell people that he -- chief executive of the United States and commander-in-chief of the U.S. armed forces -- after having said that he is a supposed "war president," is just a "backup," Or Mitch McConnell (who put the Senate in a 5-day recess before dealing with an emergency relief bill) actually trying to chastise Democrats that this is a crisis and they need to take this "seriously." (No, really.) Or...
Well, never mind, I need a breather today which lets other voice push their way to the top, and so instead I'll make the exact same point but much simpler and in far-fewer, pithy words. This is not about Trump, we know who he is. This is about the elected members of the Republican Party who enable him and are complicit. This isn't just a pithy catchphrase. It's serious and meaningful. If Republican leadership went to the White House and, in private, said that virtually all their membership had authorized them to tell Trump that -- even putting everything else that needs to be done aside -- he must enact the Defense Production Act today, or he would get zero support from the GOP on anything now or in the future, Trump would authorize the Defense Production Act that afternoon. But they don't, because they're craven, scared, fascist, cowards or whatever like-adjective you want to use, and so they enable him. And are complicit.
