Well, now, the Windows Secrets newsletter is making the exact same suggestion. (Hey, it's not every day that I get to scoop Windows Secrets, which I've subscribed to for years. But then, that's what comes from knowing Ed Bott and also reading his blog. He not only recommended this action a week ago, but years ago.)

For those wary about undertaking such a process, the Windows Secrets article gives detailed instructions how to remove Java from all your browsers at the same time, or do so manually. (The earlier Bott article provided links for this, as well.) It's pretty easy, something I was able to accomplish with ease.
If you didn't get around to removing Java a week ago, you've been given a second chance!
