California State Representative Tim Donnelly (R-33rd) told a radio interviewer today that guns "are absolutely essential to living the way God intended for us to live.”
No, they're not.
I was going to write a lot more, but then I thought, nah, that's good enough. After all, I figure that I know as much about what God intends as Tim Donnelly does.
The only thing I'll add for perspective is that Rep. Donnelly was detained by the TSA last January for attempting to bring a loaded handgun onto a flight. His carry-on bag had five added rounds of ammunition. Apparently God intended for him to be stopped. I'm reminded of the line by Michael Flanders (of the great Flanders & Swan British comedy/music team), also about God's intentions. And about getting on airplanes. "If God had intended Man to fly, he would never have invented the railway."
Robert J. Elisberg is a political commentator, screenwriter, novelist, tech writer and also some other things that I just tend to keep forgetting.
