My brother John passed away earlier this morning. I'll have more on it later, but he had a good, too short run. When he was diagnosed with his illness, he was given one month with no medication, and four months with medication. But the disease had a rare genetic which responded well to the treatment, and he lived another three years, which is remarkable. That's a lot of time to get your life in order, when you'd been given a month. I'd been sending him various humorous and upbeat videos and articles the last few years. He loved the Muppets, and this was one he particularly enjoyed. For reasons that will be clear, it seems like a particularly good and lunatic send-off...

Real Clear Politics reports today that Fox "News" is parting ways with Sarah Palin.
“It’s my understanding that Gov. Palin was offered a contract by FOX, and she decided not to renew the arrangement,” a source close to Palin told the organization. “She remains focused on broadening her message of common-sense conservatism across the country and will be expanding her voice in the national discussion.” That sounds like the offer she "decided not to renew" was paltry, and intended not to get her to renew it. Fox President Roger Ailes has chided her in public, and has been reported to have called her "stupid" in private. In fact, one of my favorite quotes is when people lose a massive national platform and say that they're leaving to "expand their voice." I believe that Laura Schlesinger said the same thing when she departed her national radio show, and since then she...well, I don't know. You can read more on the story here on Real Clear Politics. There's been a lot of media attention today of a funny picture that shows the eldest Obama daughter intentionally getting in the way of a photo that her younger sister is taking of her parents kissing. It is a cute picture, but it doesn't tell the whole story. I happened to be watching the broadcast at the time. (Hey, what can I say, I liked the Inauguration. I watched a lot of it.) What this picture above doesn't tell you is a couple of things, which were as charming.
The first is that the president saw that Sasha wanted to take a picture of her parents kissing, so he obliged his youngest daughter and turned to his wife to kiss her. That's when Malia got in the way. But then, knowing that the photo didn't work out, he leaned in for another kiss, just so Malia could get it right. But she wasn't ready and missed it. So, he kissed Michelle again. And again the little girl was too slow. So, as an obliging father, he made sure his daughter was ready, went back for a fourth time, and then she finally got her photograph. Elisberg Industries is a full-service information organization. It's really tough. A black man can't walk down the street anywhere without the police keeping a close eye on him.
So, President Obama stumbled yet again on the swearing in ceremony. I guess he's just going to have to run a third time until he gets it right.
I've been seeing a lot of guns rights advocates on the news the last couple days dismissive of the Administration's proposals for gun control protections for the reason that "none of what the president is proposing would have changed the Newtown tragedy at all."
Forgetting for a moment that that's not remotely true, since the assault weapon used would not have been available to the killer's mother who had bought it, there's actually really good news in them saying this. The good news is that since they don't like the Administration's proposals because the edicts wouldn't stop future massacres, then it would seem they're suggesting that laws should go even further. Cool. Who would have thought?! Finally, the NRA and gun advocates come out sensibly for strong enforcement. |
