The Kimmel Soliloquy

I'm sure that most people here who have wanted to see this already have.  But I can't not post Jimmy Kimmel's monologue from last night.  In part because perhaps some people here haven't seen it -- and in part because this lets me reiterate point I made two days ago when writing about how both Sinclair and Nexstar still say they won't be airing his show.  I'd noted that those broadcast groups have TV stations in blue cities and Blue areas -- and people in Red districts who enjoy Jimmy Kimmel Live! -- can watch the full show online the next day and watch clips online the same night after the show has aired.  And as of 4 PM (West Coast time) this afternoon, MSNBC reports that 26 million people have so far watched Jimmy Kimmel's monologue online.  

So, Sinclair and Nexstar not carrying his show only moves their own viewers to another platform. Without carrying their ads.

Here then is the terrific monologue.  Which was 28 minutes -- so long that it had to be split with a commercial break.  (Commercials that the 6.5 million viewers on TV saw, just not what the 26 million viewers saw online.)

By the way, oddly, my favorite line in the monologue had nothing to do with Trump or FCC Chairman Brendan Carr.  It was when Kimmel says he had been asked by a lot of people if he would have to make a prepared statement.  And the answer, he said, was yes. I just loved the joke he followed that set-up with.  Brilliant.

My second favorite joke also had nothing to do with Trump or Carr.  It's the payoff after the opening video montage, right before cutting to the opening credits.  And to be clear, I loved Trump and Carr jokes and commentary throughout.
