Wait, Wait...
On this week’s ‘Not My Job’ segment of the NPR quiz show Wait, Wait…Don’t Tell Me!, the guest contestant is Nathan Lane. It will not shock you that his conversation with host Peter Sagal is a lot of fun, full of great stories, open, self-effacing and very funny. My favorite moment is when he belatedly answers a comment about his career that host Sagal, who had been explaining Lane’s biography, offhandedly said he doesn’t know the specifics of something – a response, knowing Lane, I was expecting him to answer immediately and was surprised that he didn’t instantly jump in. Waiting almost makes it funnier.
I will add that when discussing the first musical he was in on Broadway, a show called Merlin, he quietly notes it had somewhat of a run, though they make it seem like it was a huge flop. Yes, it was not successful, but nonetheless ran for six months.
This is the full Wait, Wait… broadcast, but you can jump directly to the “Not My Job” segment, it starts around the 18:30 mark.
