This is an amazing, emotional 20-minute video from the British version of “The Voice”. A bit of background. Lonnie Donnegan was a huge British rock ‘n roll star in the 1950s. For a few years, he even toured with Tom Jones. In fact, he wrote one of Tom Jones’ biggest hits, “I’ll Never Fall in Love Again” (not the song that Dionne Warwick recorded from the musical “Promises, Promises”). He passed away early, in 2002. In 2019, his son Peter appeared on the British version of “The Voice.” One of the judges on the show is Tom Jones. Peter does a wonderful job with his song, and all the judges are clearly impressed, but unfortunately only one judge turns around on the Blind Auditions to select him. Fortunately, and remarkably, that one judge is Tom Jones! And even after hearing the singer’s name, he has no idea of the relationship. There's so much I want to write here, but I don’t want to tell you more because this is all so absolutely great and discovering it as a surprise -- no, sorry, a series of surprises and joys -- all the better. Especially since Peter Donnegan’s family, including his mother, are watching it all in the wings. And the video is not just about the Blind Auditions, but it continues on with the competition a bit, to fill you in on what transpired. For 20 minutes. All worth it.
