The Ruth Gordon Trilogy

I figure that after two pieces the last couple of days about Ruth Gordon, it's only fitting to extend it one more day and end things with a trilogy.  So, here, most properly, is Ruth Gordon as the surprise guest on This is Your Life.  

And it's quite a life, with a wide range of interesting people showing up.  But what leaps out here is that she is probably the most enthusiastic and talkative surprise guest I've seen on the show.  Most people are pretty stunned by it all and laid back.  She seems to almost want to take over, to the degree that host Ralph Edwards has to step in a few times and comment on it.  It helps make this wonderfully entertaining.

Fun, too, is when they surprise her with Ralph Edwards showing up in disguise as a delivery man.  Listen closely to when she says to this "delivery man" keeps trying to make his presentation.

Short version:  she's a hoot.

And stick with it to the very end, because when she's asked if she has any advice for young actresses, what she says is spectacular and will melt your heart.
