Running on Empty
Every day, there are more and more moments where MAGOPs show they have nothing to run on, don't have a clue how to campaign otherwise, and know they're in trouble. It's not just that they flat out, brazenly lie so openly that only someone who pays so little attention that he or she has no intention of voting will believe them (and even some of them might think something is off...), but they're flailing do wildly in desperation that they seem to not understand that what they're saying is often a condemnation of themselves, and would make a great campaign ad for Democrats. This is not hyperbole. Consider for starters the crackerjack slogan the party has come up with -- "Common sense vs. crazy." Putting aside all the lunatic MAGOPs running this year (far too many to list, like Victor Marx running for Colorado governor who's said "I've met Satan in person" -- through a 15-year-old girl. Or Brandon Herrera, running for the House in Texas, who has a string of racist, sexist and anti-Semitic comments like calling a Nazi submachine gun the "original ghetto blaster" and many candidates), the reality is that it's the very leader of the party who has dementia and regularly is making literally crazy statements and doing crazy actions, as an umbrella covering the whole MAGOP. And this -- "Common sense vs. crazy" is the party's slogan!
Or there was DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin yesterday saying -- without any apparent awareness that he was making a Democratic TV ad -- "The only way you can take a republic country like the United States and turn it into a communist country is by causing chaos on purpose and then saying, 'Hey, look, government is a mess. 'You need us, the communist country, to rule you.' It's insane."
Yes, it is indeed insane. But insane because Mr. Mullin seems blissfully clueless that this is, of course, not only the MAGOP Playbook -- but it began in as far back as 2016 when Trump campaigned on "I alone can fix it." And by the way, this concept of undermining other centers of authority so people have to give you power is one of the core tenets of fascism.
And on Sunday, Sen. Tim Scott (MAGOP-SC) made of the most tone-dear statements you're likely to have heard for a while, which is saying a lot. And its total clueless emptiness was even more evidence that MAGOPs are thrashing around, trying to find something, anything -- anything -- that will sound patriotic and noble, even at risk of coming off like a soulless, ignorant hack. And no, that's not an exaggeration. Because what he said was:
"Frankly, having the president for the first time in the history of this country abide and put himself and the VP under the federal laws of this country, that is a remarkable shift in the right direction. President Trump should actually be applauded."
Yes, really. Tim Scott actually said that. It's gotten to the point where either he doesn't listen to what he says, or just doesn't care. It puts Tim Scott on the Hall of Fame list of "Incredibly and Inexplicably Stupid Things a U.S. Senator has ever said." And he qualifies in several divisions. But this is what MAGOPs appear to feel is all they have left to them to run on. Because you don't throw out drivel like that if you've got substance, polices and even just a small lead on your side.
Or yesterday, the Senate Commerce Republicans held a big press conference, with Ted Cruz in the lead where they enthusiastically posted a video of it on social media and wrote, "The Protect College Sports Act is the nation's best chance at safeguarding the future of collegiate athletics."
Yes, just weeks before Americans start voting, and with Trump having a 32% approval, gas prices soaring, no end in site to his Iran War of choice, high inflation, high tariffs and high consumer prices, this is the big issue that Ted Cruz and MAGOP think they have that the American public is going to rise up to and rally behind -- college sports!! -- In large part because they can't find anything else to run on.
But if anything truly shows the truly that the MAGOP is in, and shows that they don't have anything to run on and haven't figured out what to do, it's this. They can't even give away free money!! After Trump promised giving all American adults $5,000 if his party retains control of both the House and Senate, a Reuters/Ipsos poll was taken and found that..."63 percent of Americans reject the dividend proposal outright, including nine in ten Democrats and a striking four in ten Republicans"!!! Really. A full 63% of Americans don't want Trump's offer of free money -- and worse, 40% of MAGOPs don't want it either!! So, when I say that every day, there are more and more moments where MAGOPs show they have nothing to run on, don't have a clue how to campaign otherwise, and know they're in trouble -- I mean it.
