Let's Do Lunch

On this week’s Naked Lunch podcast, hosts Phil Rosenthal and David Wild sit down to eat with Pamela Adlon.  As the show writes, “Together they lovingly and laughingly trace Pamela and Phil's decades long friendship that started when they worked together on a Fox sitcom called Down The Shore -- which Phil wrote on and Pamela starred in . . . until she was insanely fired for ‘not being hot enough.’ Phil, David and Pamela discuss the genius of Pamela's Peabody-winning FX series Better Things which she brilliantly wrote, directed, produced and starred in. They also discuss her remarkable life in show business with amazing stories that feature everyone from Redd Foxx to Michelle Pfeiffer to Judy Gold to Lenny Kravitz...Fun for all.”

I should add that Pamela Adlon is the daughter of my late-friend, TV writer Don Segall, who I wrote about here.  Among other things, Don was the inspiration for the adorable, good-hearted, neurotic screenwriter character spot-on played by Bob Hoskins in the movie Sweet Liberty, written and directed by Alan Alda who was one of Don’s closest friends and, as such, knew him insightfully and captured him in the Hoskins character to a T.  (Hoskins and Don even looked alike.)  I only crossed paths with Pamela once, at one of Don’s legendary break-the-fast blowouts after Yom Kippur.  She was probably around 16.  And I remember later telling Don, “Your daughter is a spitfire.”  Even back then.
