In Liu of Something Else
I meant to post this a few months ago, but other things got in the way. And so we correct that timing now.
It's easy to overlook that fact that for all her accomplishments, Alysa Liu is only 20 years old. And clearly, like most kids today she most surely grew up on the “Harry Potter” movies. And since she is only 20 years old, that means she didn’t watch them terribly long ago.
When she was on the Today show recently, she was backstage in the Green Room and met another guest – Daniel Radcliffe. Her reaction is just pure Alysa Liu and why so many people have fallen for her. There is zero pretense. She’s a 20 year-old girl meeting her movie hero.
Actually, there's something about the second half of the video that I think is wonderful and has next-to-nothing to do with Alysa Liu, but rather Daniel Radcliffe. I find it equally adorable, but most especially stands out for the pure decency of what Radcliffe says. And it stands out all the more in perspective, since only days before we saw the video of FBI Director Kash Patel celebrating in the U.S. Men's Hockey Team lockerroom, spraying beer and wearing a player's Gold Medal. I don’t want to say any more and give anything away. These videos make you admire both of them even more, for different reasons.
You may have to watch the second-half of the video again. It's a little hard to hear what Daniel Radcliffe say. But if you can't make it out, when he decides not to put on her Gold Medal, he says that, "It feels a little like stolen valor." What a great phrase and great perspective.
As a bonus, here is a segment of when Alysa Liu was on the Today show. It's great fun. Especially because it has some things in it that don't generally get covered in interviews with her, and they are freaking adorable. I shall say no more.
