Hello, Again, to Goodbye

Yesterday, I posted a video of Elton John, and it got me remembering a stunningly spectacular version of his song “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” that Sara Bareilles performed, which I posted here.  And I’m not exaggerating, and it’s not just my opinion.  Because in another video I posted, Sir Elton joins her onstage to sing a duet of her song, “Gravity,” at a charity event, but before they start he tells the audience, “I was so blown away by the version of Yellow Brick Road. I've never heard anyone sing one of my songs like that ever. I can't thank you enough, giving your talent and blowing my mind with that version. Because when someone sings your songs they usually copy you and she made it her own. That's brilliant--it's a hard song."

Anyway, I found another video of her singing “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” and I want to post it because it’s different enough to have other elements that make it as special on its own, as well.  There’s also an orchestra adding accompaniment, though in a quiet enough way that it complements her piano – not necessarily “better” than the evocative moodiness of her single piano of the other version, but interestingly rich with a slightly different sensibility.  And, as in the first version, her 15-second run on a single breath at the 3:10 mark is just plain powerfully moving, and remarkable singing
