Hanks a Lot
Scrolling through YouTube today, I came across Tom Hanks' appearance on Jimmy Kimmel's show this week. Much I enjoy when he's a guest an talk shows, the reason I stopped to watch was because it said that he talked about Peter Scolari, who he started his career with on the series Bosom Buddies and who recently passed away.
Well, it turned out that this was Hanks on steroids. It may have been because it was his one of his first -- or, I think his first -- live, in-person talk show appearance since the pandemic began. But whatever the reason, he was an wildly energetic, enthusiastic and funny as I've seen him on a talk show for a very long time, almost to the point of outlandish. And not just telling one story, but on a wide range of topics, for each of them -- whether talking about his new movie Finch (which goes off into unexpected directions), why he passed on Jeff Bezos' offer to go into space (which he turned into performance art), or doing a radio show (which he threw himself into full force).
Yet his storytelling was most eloquent when it came to talking about Peter Scolari. I'll leave it to the clip to show how they dealt with it, but I'll just note that at the very end you'll see Hanks truly choked up.
