Don't Get Cross

This is an incredibly clever trick that the New Times had in its Sunday crossword puzzle on February 6.  There was an across-clue "The better of two sci-fi franchises", and whatever you answered -- Star Wars or Star Trek -- the down-clues that crossed through your answer were written in a way that there were two different answers, both of which fit.  Remarkable.
