Culture Shock

For a long while, I've been writing about one of my favorite talk shows, The Graham Norton Show, and posting many videos from it.  The British program (or perhaps that should be "programme") is shown on BBC America.

The show is pretty light-hearted and almost never gets into issues too deeply -- in large part because all their guests are seated together on a large sofa, which tends to make serious conversation with any single guest prohibitive.  Though the conversation is nonetheless often very thoughtful and host Norton often asks probing, atypical questions.

All of which brings up a video that's been making the rounds of an interview done with Graham Norton as the onstage guest.  Though video, it was done under the auspices of Times Radio, with host Mariella Frostrup.  And the segment in question is his answer about "Cancel Culture."  There's a certain irony in the headline of the piece, given his answer (which will be clear as you watch), but of course he had nothing to do with how the video was titled, let alone what he was asked.  But his answer is very thoughtful and even a bit eloquent, as well as self-effacing, which helps explain in part which I enjoy his show, goofy and lighthearted though it always is.  You know that there's this intelligence and thoughtfulness underneath it all.
