On this week’s Naked Lunch podcast, co-hosts Phil Rosenthal and David Wild welcome Larry Charles, who wrote and directed for such series as Seinfeld and Cheers, directed Curb Your Enthusiasm for over seven years, and produced them, as well as Mad About You, and a great many others – as well as directed the movie Borat.  As Phil and David write, “The legendary writer and director Larry Charles comes to Naked Lunch to discuss his brilliant career and his remarkable new book Comedy Samurai: Forty Years of Blood, Guts, and Laughter," a rollicking journey through modern American Comedy. Hear great stories about Sacha Baron Cohen, Larry David, Bob Dylan and so many more.

One oddity:  this conversation took place with a camera recording it, but for the first 27 minutes there are just graphic stills on screen.  But stick around, because around the 27-minute mark, the camera kicks in, and you see everyone talking around the table the rest of the way.

On this week’s ‘Not My Job’ segment of the NPR quiz show Wait, Wait…Don’t Tell Me!, the guest contestant is Caro Claire Burke, author of the Summer hit novel Yesteryear.  Her conversation with host Peter Sagal about the book’s long journey to publication is interesting, self-effacing and fun.

This is the full Wait, Wait… broadcast, but you can jump directly to the “Not My Job” segment, it starts around the 20:30 mark.

Author

Robert J. Elisberg is a political commentator, screenwriter, novelist, tech writer and also some other things that I just tend to keep forgetting.

Elisberg is a two-time recipient of the Lucille Ball Award for comedy screenwriting. He's written for film, TV, the stage, has two sort-of best-selling novels, and was a regular columnist for the Writers Guild of America and Huffington Post.  Among his other writing, he's had a long-time column on technology (which he sometimes understands), and co-wrote a book on world travel.  As a lyricist, he is a member of ASCAP, and has contributed to numerous publications.
