Better Off Ed

Let's dive deep into the archives of old TV and go back to The Ed Sullivan Show.  It's a remarkable museum of American pop culture -- and occasionally high art culture, as well.  This is the former, the Everly Brothers singing their hit, "Wake Up, Little Susie."

I actually saw the Everly Brothers in concert, about 20 years later.  They'd had a long breakup, in fact, they didn't even speak for about a decade, but eventually reconciled and reunited around 1983, and performed at the Ravinia Music Festival where I had worked.  They were very enjoyable -- though the guy next to me was less pleased since they weren't singing all their songs the same as they did a quarter of a century earlier when they were kids.  Eventually, he walked out, grumbling all the time.  Me, as I said, I thought it was a really good evening.
