You're a Grand Old Flag...

Yesterday, the Republican Party -- the people who brought you the Jan. 6 Insurrection and their ongoing fascist attempt to overthrow democracy -- posted the following on Twitter.

There was one problem.  That's not the flag of the United States.  That's the Liberian flag.  And so, the GOP had to quickly delete it.  But not before it was seen and saved by many.

Man, that almost perfectly represents what the Republican Party has become. Hiding behind the flag that they have virtually no concept of. 

Further proof that there is a God.

One of the most pointed responses on Twitter came from a user who posted, "You'd think they'd recognize the flag they beat cops with." 

Yes, of course, this was just a screw-up by the communications team.  But it's that symbolism that makes it too meaningful.

For many decades, Republicans have tried to make fake "patriotism" their personal property, hiding behind plastic flag lapel pins.  Calling themselves the "real Americans."  Crying out against the desecration of the flag -- while putting it on every bit of junk paraphernalia and quite literally wrapping themselves in it, as Trump did, enveloping his arms around a draped flagpoles for the cameras.  Using the flag not as a symbol of freedom, but as a political bludgeon.  And in the false name of "democracy," staged an Insurrection, breaking into the U.S. Capitol to stop the counting of votes for president and attempting to overthrow the United States government.

And when trying to make yet another political point with the flag, they couldn't even get it right.

Just as they haven't gotten it right for generations.
