I was very glad to see congressman Eric Swalwell drop out of the race for the Democratic nomination to be president, the first in that massive field to do so. I actually like Swalwell a lot, think he's an excellent Congressman and I suspect he'll run for senator in California -- either if Sen. Kamala Harris has to give up her seat or when Sen. Dianne Feinstein most-likely decides not to run in five years. I also sense that Rep. Adam Schiff will also run for California senator at that point, too, and I like him, as well, so it'll be a battle -- but then, who knows?, maybe both seats will soon be open.
Much as I like Swalwell, he had no business running for president. And neither do many others among that gaggle. And it's not just that have have no business running, but it makes the serious race between the truly-serious candidates harder to stand out and be debated seriously. So, I appreciate the maturity of Mr. Swalwell's decision -- and hope that a lot of others, who really not only have no business of running, but no chance of winning, take the hint and do the same.

I'm not sure about Schiff running for Senate. I think he's angling for Speaker of the House. Pelosi is going to retire eventually. He's a generation younger than current leadership and more experienced than most of the other House Democrats currently making names for themselves. Ted Lieu on the other hand, I do see running for Senate. Swalwell might wait for Newsome to term out and make a run for Governor. All of the national exposure he gets from cable news is a cheap way to gain name recognition state wide.

I'm not sure either. But when it was believed that Dianne Feinstein wouldn't be running for reelection, there was a good deal of discussion that both Schiff and Swalwell weren't interested in going after the seat, and how when she re-upped, it put an immediate stop to any plans.
