When Bad Speeches Go Good

If you haven't seen the new Biden ad, it's brilliant.

It does exactly what I’ve been hoping for – use footage of Republicans saying their most insanely stupid things and run it as a campaign ad.  But this is even better, because it flips that.  And the moment I saw this footage the other day, this is what I was hoping for.  And they did it.

I won’t say more.  Because you’ll love it.

I’ll only say that as good as the ad is that Tweet from Biden which simply says, “I approve this message.”  That will mean more hilariously once you see the ad, if you haven’t already.

(This below is just a screenshot of Biden's tweet.  The video itself is underneath it.)

And here is the ad itself --

That is just great.

Her speech was one of the most classic examples of stupid cluelessness in American politics.  When she made the speech the other day, it was shredded online with joyous ridicule.  (And on the news, to a lesser degree.)  This ad is just SO wonderfully done – it’s edited beautifully, and her “narration” is near perfect, emphasizing all the important words properly.  I just wish they had Biden say at the end, “I’m Joe Biden, and I approve this message.”  But at least they put it in the tweet.

The longer version of her speech is even worse, amazingly.  She begins by making all these comparisons of Biden to LBJ.  Being in the Senate.  Being a vice-president.  Continuing the policies of this predecessor.  But – what makes it most stupid is that, in making these comparisons, she begins by saying, “Lyndon Johnson was Senate Majority Leader – sound familiar?”  The only interpretation of that is she thinks that Biden was the Majority Leader!

But, oh, God, this was so terrific.  And the best thing is that I think it shows that they DO have in mind what I’ve been hoping – using GOP stupidity in ads.  Clearly, they are watching and lying in wait.  And that’s best thing of all.

But this is a classic.  And I suspect we will see other versions of it, even if just brief clips edited into other ads.
