Waxing Eloquent
Yesterday, at the end of the video of I posted of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, he sets up a (real) online auction to raise money for Public Broadcasting which has had its funding cut by Trump and MAGOPs. The items he's offering come from promotions the show had done over the years, which have been sitting in storage.
Five of the pieces were wax figures of former presidents which were themselves auctioned off about eight years by an museum in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Oliver briefly described how the show had used the figures, and it made me curious enough to see if I could track down what he was referring to. And I did! It was two videos that the show made at the time.
The first one explains it all in detail, and the video they made is elaborate and wonderful. And I don't want to give away anything more than that, because it's filled with surprises.
The second video is much shorter, but has its own wonderful treat in it. Here they are. They are both absolutely worth it.
First, the backstory behind it all and extended effort.
And second, the short one and a joy on its own.
