Several months back, I posted a video here of the song "To Life" from the Japanese production of Fiddler on the Roof. I thought it would be nice to return to the Far East to see how that the show begins. So here is the entire opening number, "Tradition," from that same production.
As for as I can tell, this was taped in performance for a TV broadcast of the show. As a result, the quality is wonderful. Fiddler on the Roof has always transferred well around the world, since so many cultures have some sort of diaspora in the history. For that reason, it's always played so particularly well in Japan, the last place you'd think would be a home for it. But as you can see, it's a wonderful fit.
