Stephen Schwartz is a non-resident senior fellow at the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists.  When I first saw this tweet, I appreciated the thinking but felt it missed a larger point that a "next pandemic" would be under another and sane president.  Then I looked closer and saw at the bottom that it was written TWO YEARS AGO -- when Trump and John Bolton closed the Pandemic Response Unit.

When the next pandemic occurs (and make no mistake, it will) and the federal government is unable to respond in a coordinated and effective fashion to protect the lives of US citizens and others, this decision by John Bolton and Donald Trump will be why. https://t.co/iMSzopSRaI
