Total Recall...
It's now official, all the votes are finally in and counted -- Gavin Newsom will NOT be recalled as governor of California in a 23-point squeaker:
NO: 61.88%
YES: 38.12%
And fiscally-responsible Republican petulance only cost taxpayers $276 MILLION.
Notable, too, that is the GOP was hoping for a big turnout in-person, which was expected to off-set Democrats' advantage in vote-by-mail (since Trump has scared off Republican "trust" in using mail-in ballots) -- yet the margin only changed a paltry 2% after mailed votes were counted election night.
By the way, let it not be forgotten that before the election, Larry Elder cried out there was "voter fraud" and he would consider asking for a recount. Again -- this was BEFORE the election. Won by 23 points.
This is today's GOP, giving lie to always insisting on "voter fraud."
Thanks, Larry, for making that clear to everyone!
But the GOP whining in this case gets even more notable --
My friend Greg Van Buskirk sent me a reminder of the results from the last California gubernatorial race in 2018 which Gavin Newsom won to become governor.
Gavin Newsom.....7,721,410.....61.95%
John H. Cox.........4,742,825....38.05%
You are ready that correctly. The results are almost identical to the recall election. There is only a 0.07% difference for each. And for that whiney, petulant difference, it cost the state of California taxpayers $276 million.
So, yes, that's today's Republican Party, who as they keep showing don't like that they actually lose -- and badly. On the state level, it is my hope that this all helps lead to California making some changes to its recall law. Yes, this cost $276 MILLION. And on the national level, as well, it borders on dangerous to democracy.
But then, again, yes, that's today's Republican Party.
