Tonight Last Night
I tend not to watch The Tonight Show all that much, since I think Jimmy Fallon is a very weak interviewer, but if there's a guest I particularly want to see, I may check it out. Though not always, since I figure they might show up that same week on another show if they're promoting something. But I saw that Lin-Manuel Miranda was a guest on Tuesday, and I didn't see him on any other late night talk show this week, even though I figured he was likely promoting the movie of his musical, In the Heights. And since I wanted to see what he had to say about the movie, I tuned it.
He did talk about it (and with much affection, bringing up how he began writing the show in college, because other than West Side Story there weren't really any other musicals with Puerto Ricans. And not only did it end up winning the Tony Award as Best Musical, but the movie is having its premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival -- which is in Washington Heights...which is where the story takes place. Making it all SO surreal, he said) -- but before the interview segment, he and Jimmy Fallon started things off with a little sketch.
It's not "great," but it's very nicely done, a great deal of fun, builds a clever premise...and as it builds move it's actually very touching and even a bit emotional.
