Today's Piano Puzzler

We have a new one today, and it’s a special edition.  “The Piano Puzzler” is part of a larger program, Performance Today, which has broadcast since 1987.  And this week’s contestant is David Lai, who is one of the Performance Today’s Young Artists in Residence.  I got the hidden song very quickly – it’s not well-hidden at all.  As for the composer style, it wasn’t one that I could narrow down.  I had a guess, but it was only half-hearted – and fully wrong.

The episode is fun, because Mr. Lai is in the studio with a piano and host Fred Child.  So, he occasionally plays along, and there’s a lot of musical discussion with pianist Bruce Adolphe.  (Including David Laid discussing and playing the first “piano puzzler” he wrote, with help by Adalphe, for his concerts, along with his favorites and others he’s written.)  In fact, because they’re all basically together-ish, the show released the episode on video.  And it’s much longer than the audio version, so you get bonus material.  And so, I’ve decided that that is the version I’ll post.  Which lets everyone see how it’s done.
