A while back, I wrote about having seen an absolutely wonderful comic film that had been nominated for Best Live-Action Short at the 2012 Oscars. It was called Time Freak, written and directed by Andrew Bowler, and produced by his wife, Gigi Causey. A friend who's an Academy member invited me to join him for the day when they show all the nominated shorts (live-action, animated and documentary) to members. And while several leaped out as quite terrific, Time Freak stood out as my favorite. Alas, it didn't win (I thought it should have...), but the couple got a great deal of attention for the video they made filming themselves as they discovered that they'd gotten the Oscar nomination. It's the definition of pure joy. I posted this video above at the time, but unfortunately I wasn't able to find the short film online. And I searched for it over the past several years. Whenever I told friends about how great the film was, alas the best I could do was send them to a link of an extended scene, or the trailer. Both were very good and extremely funny, and did the sensibility of the full film justice -- but they just didn't give an idea of how terrific the whole thing really was. And then, just the other day...I found it!! O huzzah! And it's as really-wonderful as I remembered it. Do yourself a favor and spare the paltry 11 minutes to watch. Here is Time Freak. The whole thing. At last. And then when you've finished, go back up to the beginning and watch again the utter joy of the filmmakers as they find out they'd just gotten an Oscar nomination .
