There's No Business Like Shoe Business

This is my favorite "funny story" of the week.  Not funny because of what the story actually is, though, but rather for a totally different reason.

By way of brief background, a conservative commentator, Justin Haskins, took video of anti-vax, multi-issue conspiratorialist Robert Kennedy Jr. walking down the aisle without his shoes and socks on.  And it made the news, and caused a low-level of outrage on social media after Haskins posted the "disgusting" video, as he called it, on Sunday.

Admittedly, it's a pretty creepy and unhealthy and disrespectful thing to do in an enclosed public environment.  Not just for anyone, but especially someone running as a third-party candidate for president.

What I thought was so funny were two different things.

The first is that considering how the leading conservative in the country, on the verge of being the Republican presidential nominee, leading his next closest opponent by 45 points has four indictments, 91 charges against him, been found liable for the equivalence of rape, been found guilty of fraud, had his charity foundation shut down for a "shocking pattern of illegality," is on trial for paying hush money to a porn actress and lying about it on his campaign forms, has called for the death of his former Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff, tried to foment an insurrection to overthrown the government, had his plans released for undermining the U.S. Constitution if re-elected, echoed the words of Hitler in his Veterans Day speech over the weekend, had revealed he has plans to build interment camps for immigrants and to have mass deportation if re-elected, repeatedly saying in speeches that he's running against Barack Obama, and has been threatening judges, prosecutors and court staff -- it's hilarious that RFK Jr. walking around on a plane without shoes and socks on is what a conservative commentator found "disgusting."

And the second thing so funny is that considering -- and no, I won't repeat the whole, long list above about indictments, liable for rape, guilty of fraud, fomenting an Insurrection to overthrow democracy, echoing Hitler, internment camps, and all the rest and much, much, much more -- all the horrifying things swirling around Trump and him still holding a 45-point lead over his next-closest opponent in the GOP race to be its party nominee...that anyone would think RFK Jr. walking around a plane without shoes and socks on would even register to be a blip on the radar as something disgusting, unhealthy and thoughtless -- let alone merely a problem -- to the Republican Party base.

Then again, I could have made this even simpler.  That anyone would be disgusted by Robert Kennedy Jr. walking down a plane without his shoes and socks on, and not that he's an anti-vax, multi-issue conspiratorialist nut job causing great harm to fighting the pandemic and more, and is running for president, is funny enough on its own...
