The Senate's Version of "Groundhog Day"

Okay, so earlier I noted that today was the one day that the Senate had in which it would be able to change the filibuster rule.  And that was true.  What I overlooked (as most humans would, I think) is that the Senate has rules that make its life like the movie Groundhog Day, where you can live in a day that never ends.

In the Senate, if the Majority Leader decrees it, a day isn't over until the session is.  And Harry Reid (D-NV) has so decreed.  Channeling his best Bill Murray, he's told Republicans that they have 24-36 hours to reach some agreement on a filibuster rule they like, or he'll just go ahead and bring his own rule to the floor, one that's less-likely to meet with their approval, but with Democrats having the majority would pass.

So, we'll see what happens tomorrow.  Or today.  Or whatever it is.
